Evolution Korea

The democratic system in South Korea is prone to populist tendencies. However, it is more stable than one would expect.

The country is seeking a new way of developing. The Confucian culture, which emphasizes respect for the ancestors as well as gendered family relationships, continues to influence the society. There are indications of a secularist culture trend forming.

Origins

In the prehistoric era, the ancestors of modern Koreans lived by hunting and gathering wild food. Then around 10,000 years ago they began to cultivate crops such as millet and beans. They also raised livestock and created furs. These tribes formed tribal states in succession in Manchuria and on the Korean peninsula. They also developed an industry of metallurgy, which produced iron tools, including bronze. Gojoseon was established in 2333 BCE on the southern peninsula. The state adopted Chinese culture which included Confucian Philosophy and Buddhism. During this period the people of Buyeo joined Gojoseon. Gojoseon was a state that was hierarchical where the monarch and other senior officials were from the aristocracy of the land, while the rest of its population was peasants. The state collected taxes from these people and sometimes even forced them to join the army or to build fortifications.

Onjo the prince of Goguryeo who was also the son of Jumong, the founder of Goguryeo and the state of Baekje at the close of the time. The new kingdom expanded to the southwest region of the peninsula, and was at war against Goguryeo’s commanderies and China’s in the area. Baekje adopted Confucian ideas in its state beliefs system in 1390 CE, and made the male-centered concept of filiopiety into a doctrine. In the name of filiopiety, fathers were responsible to their families. They must be obedient to everyone and respected by their grandchildren and children.

Goryeo, which would rule from 918 to 1392 CE gave the world the Hangul alphabet built on the patterns created by the mouth when it was pronounced. This greatly improved communication and led to an increase in the writing of Buddhist text. In addition, movable metal type printing was introduced, and woodblock printing was refined. In 1145 CE, the Samguk Sagi or “History of the Three Kingdoms” was first recorded.

Development in Korea

The Korean peninsula has been habitable since Neolithic times. Early evidence for human settlements is evident in the form graves lined with stones, with precious objects like amazonite jewelry being buried with the dead. Megalithic structures, also known as dolmens and built of large stones in a single piece, are common in the country.

In the first part of the 1st millennium BCE, Gojoseon established itself as the first recognized political state. The peninsula was ruled by several states during the Three Kingdoms period (57 BCbetween 635 and 57 BC CE) including Baekje, Goguryeo, and Silla. Additionally, the northern part of the peninsula was occupied by the Balhae kingdom, which most historians do not consider to be a valid Korean state.

After the Three Kingdoms arose the Proto-Three Kingdoms Period, or Several States Period. Baekje was the most powerful of these states was diminished by the collapse of Goguryeo (676 CE) and was left with only its southern regions in Manchuria and the its western region around Hwanghae Bay. Eastern Buyeo, and the Gaya confederacy, prospered for a while.

The Unified Silla kingdom then emerged and the three kingdoms began to work together to expand their territory. Silla with the help of the Chinese eventually conquered and united the peninsula in 935.

As Korea enters a post-crisis phase the way it develops appears to be changing. People who are shocked by the immense cost of the old system advocate the need for a comprehensive program of liberalization in capital as well as labor and product markets. On the other hand, supporters of the old system attempt to keep it alive through nationalist sentiments and by stoking fears of job loss.

Academics and analysts are divided on the extent to which Korea’s development is being driven by these two trends. This article focuses on the five phases of the Korean evolution in terms of its political development: illiberal democracies (1945-60), democratic autoritarianism (1961-72) authoritarian exceptionalism (1972-1877), democratic paternalism (2001-2002) and democratic participation (2002). This article also highlights the most important elements that are the driving force behind these developments.

Creationism in Korea

In South Korea, 26 percent of the population is Christian. The creationists have been successful in promoting their views among this group. A 2009 survey revealed that nearly three-quarters of respondents did not believe in the theory of evolution. Of the respondents, 41% stated that there wasn’t enough scientific evidence to support evolution 39% of respondents said that the theory contradicted their religion and 17% claimed it was difficult to understand. This level of doubt is similar to the United States where a similar percentage do not believe humans evolved from less advanced types of life.

In the past, the anti-evolutionist campaign in Korea was primarily focused on teaching students and the introduction of Christ to them. In 1980, a four-day creation science seminar was held in Seoul during the World Evangelization Crusade. Drs. Henry Morris and Duane Gish of ICR as the featured speakers. The event attracted an audience of scientists, professors and church leaders.

The success of the event led to the creation of the Korea Association of Creation Research on January 31, 1980. The inauguration meeting was widely covered in the national press, including The Korea Times and Chosun Ilbo and also was well-received by the public.

KACR started publishing a newsletter called CREATION. In CREATION, the organization published its own activities and published articles on scientific evidence for the existence of God. It also translated several films and slides from ICR, as well as several books on creationism that were already in print outside of Korea. KACR members delivered lectures at universities and churches throughout the country.

One instance of an KACR success story was at the KAIST university in Seoul. Students at KAIST in Seoul were keen on the concept of creationism that they raised money and got funding to construct a small museum dedicated to creation on campus.

In addition to its public activities, KACR publishes a bimonthly news magazine called CREATION which covers topics in creation science. It also sponsored a series of talks by ICR staff. It has also organized a network of local branches that hold seminars and provide talks to school children and community groups.

Changes in South Korea

In the latter half of the 19th century and into the early 20th, Korea moved toward a Westernised lifestyle. The traditional hanbok, or Korean dress, gave way to miniskirts, as well as other fashion elements imported from abroad. Similarly, traditional Korean music styles were replaced by modern rock and roll and jazz. In this time, the famous samulnori or masked dancing-dramas were very popular. These dramatic pieces were performed to the accompaniment of shaman drummers as well as other instruments of music.

The economic crisis has formed Korea’s new model of development. The new regime’s main challenge lies in the proper balance between state-led economic policies and market-oriented ones. Baekje, founded by Onjo the prince and third son of Jumong of Goguryeo, was founded by people from the Hangang River area, Buyeo, and other areas as well as migrant workers from northern China. Baekje, one of the major regional powers in the 4th century, expanded its territory to Mahan in north and Jeollanam-do south. As a result, it was in frequent conflict with Goguryeo and the Chinese commanders across the border.

The decline of Silla between the 8th and 9th centuries resulted in the development of powerful local factions. Gungye was a nobleman from Later Baekje who established a kingdom in Songak with Songak as the capital. He was the ruler of a large portion of today’s Jeolla province as well as Chungcheong. Then, he moved the capital to Wansanju. He was an adversary to Goguryeo.

His rule was however short-lived. After Gungye was defeated by a powerful local leader Wang Geon, who united Goryeo with Baekje and Silla in 935, 에볼루션 슬롯게임 Later Baekje was incorporated peacefully into Goryeo as an heir state. Additionally, Wang Geon introduced fundamental reforms and strengthened a centralized government system. This was the end of the Three Kingdoms Period. From that point, the Korean peninsula was under the control of the Goryeo Dynasty. In the Three Kingdoms Period, Goguryeo Baekje Silla gradually grew into powerful states on the peninsula as well as in Manchuria.
